Poetry Is – A Spoken Word on Poetry

Listen to “Poetry Is”

Poetry is
For those with rich emotion
Or still- where impassive hearts
Start commotion.

Poetry is
A steam engine in motion
Where pressure mounts and chugs through
You- a piston.

Poetry is
Sublime communication
Minds bend, hearts break, and spirits
Find elation.

Poetry is
Plummeting in deep measure
To draw out bold refrains or
Hidden treasure.

Poetry is
Turning pain into pleasure
Where aching lines find rhymes in
Spite the weather.

Poetry is
A force of honest answer;
In between, or dampened souls
Can’t feign rapture.

Poetry is
A sword unsheathed for writing
Gentle words in sand, or else
To stab in fighting.

Poetry is
Expression loathe or loving
Insight or confusion or
Slow becoming.

Poetry is
Not only inward reaching;
Pens that upward look and plead
Make fine preaching.

Poetry is
To cram earth into a phrase
Or make a millisecond
Roll on for days.

Poetry is
The unwinding of a maze
Unveil the mystery there
And clear the haze.

Poetry is
Best if men of erring ways
Are cut then quickened to see God
And moved to praise.

Charlene Nelson

Welcome to the poetry blog of Charlene Nelson. I view poetry primarily as an expression and means of seeing and savouring Jesus Christ, while inviting others to join me. Some readers may even want to join by writing and submitting their own poetry- and I hope they will! I also intend to use this as a place to share hymns and poetry of times past.
